Grenada

Grenada is a small Caribian Island north of Tobago. The county consist of the island Granada and the smaller islands Carriacou og Petite Martinique. On Grenada , which is the southernmost of the Windward Island, a forest mountain range stretches down though the Island. Along with the rest of the island, this chain is of volcanic origin. The mountain range is crossed by several rives, and the island has many lakes. To the west the landscape slopes steeply downwards. To the south, the mountain range descends smoothly until the sea. The island’s green and mountainous landscape and gorgeous beaches have not yet put it on the hot tourist radar.

Grenada is a global supplier of spices such as nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger. The country actually supplies about one-third of the global nutmeg supply. Today spice tours are now a popular activity among many visitors. Grenada has some of the best cocoa, and you will find workshops where you can learn about cocoa and the chocolate making process. There are five chocolate factories whose products are distributed worldwide for making chocolate bars and products in the beauty industry like soaps and moisturizers. You can either visit Belmont Estate Chocolate or The Grenada Chocolate Company, where you can observe cocoa plants and the manufacturing process of organic craft chocolate.

At Gouyave Nutmeg Processing Station on Grenada’s west coast you can see how locals grow, sort, and process the nutmeg. 

Almost every Caribbean Island produces its own rum and Grenada is no exception. Plenty of places offer rum tasting such as the River Antoine Estate home to the oldest rum distillery in Grenada, which has been producing rum since 1785. But spend some time tasting the different rum and get your favorite.

Grand Etang National Park

The park was established in 1992, and covers a huge area with mountains/volcano, a lake, dense rainforest, several waterfalls, towering mahogany and giant gummier trees. The park is home to a lot of different animals like possums, frogs, lizards, mongoose, and the Mona monkey. The forest is also home for a whole variety of birds. Situated at the heart of the park, the Grand Etang lake sits proudly at 530m above sea level. A beautiful and breathtaking place.

Among the several waterfalls within the park you will find The Seven Sisters Falls, which is considered one of Grenada’s most beautiful attractions. Here you can relax and cool down with a swim in the pool at the base of the falls.

Annandale Falls is surrounded by green lush of vegetation and walls of rocks covered in soft-leafed ferns. It is one of the smallest waterfalls at the island but very beautiful and easily accessible. It is located near the capital St. George. The entrance to Annandale falls is through an interpretation center at the edge of Constantine. Here you can find information about Grenada and its waterfalls as well as purchase snacks, drinks, and souvenirs.

Beaches

You can find Grand Anse Beach, on the southwestern part of Grenada Island, and this beach is one of the most beautiful Caribbean beaches. The golden sand and turquoise water makes it very popularand known. The beach is surrounded by coconut palm trees and almond trees, and access to the beach is free for all visitors. You will find some hotels, bars, and the Grand Anse Craft and Spice Market are located close to the beach. Here you will find souvenirs, handmade jewelry, dresses and different spices.

On the east side of the island of Grenada, you will find La Sagesse beach. It’s a five-minute walk from the main road, and normally it’s not crowded. The restaurants along the beach, serve local seafood dishes. In the surrounding forest you can be lucky to see and hear many birds, and the walking trails lead you to beautiful lookouts.

Bathway beach attacts many people and you have lively music and cheerful atmosphere.
